Hidden in the trees near McAllen, Texas, stands the abandoned Delta Lake Hotel—a place where history and tragedy have left something behind.
It began in 1929, when W.A. Harding built the Delta Lake Clubhouse to lure land buyers to the water’s edge. But the Great Depression took it from him, and it passed from hand to hand—first an insurance company, then the wealthy Bentsen family, then the Gattis, who turned it into the Delta Lake Hotel.
Through the decades, it saw parties, hunters, and travelers… and then, silence. The walls began to rot, windows shattered, and the wind carried whispers no one wanted to hear.
The last chapter came in 2007, when its most recent owner, Laura Doyle, was murdered on the property. Locals say her spirit still lingers, joined by the echoes of everyone who came before her.
Visitors have reported flickering lights in empty rooms, shadowy figures on the second floor, and the sound of footsteps pacing in the dead of night.
If you ever see its crumbling outline against the lake, don’t stop. Some doors, once opened, never let you leave.
